Body&Soul Announces Visionary Artist Fever RayFestivals, Music
Body&Soul unveils its first artist announcement for the 2018 festival, the singular sound of Swedish artist Fever Ray. An artist of metamorphosis by nature, Fever Ray perfectly encompasses the theme for the 2018 festival, Alchemy – the art and act of transformation.
Fever Ray is the alter ego of Karin Dreijer, who burst onto the electronic scene nearly a decade ago with an unparalleled artistry that encompasses not just sound, but rich visuals and costumes that are in turn enticing and experimental. Fever Ray has shapeshifted from white witch to skeletal ghoul and even a skull-capped joker-style submissive; willing to push the boundaries of expectation to create thrilling, unnerving and unforgettable performances.
Fever Ray’s Friday night curations for the Body&Soul Stage will be released in the coming weeks with the line-up for the full festival forthcoming.
Sitting in the stunning grounds of Ballinlough Castle, Body&Soul Festival transcends the classic notion of a music festival, offering a holistic experience for all the senses. Groundbreaking music artists, immersive theatre, beautiful art installations, gastronomic experiences, fragrant cocktails and indulgent wellbeing areas come together to provide a weekend of sensory exploration.
The truly independent festival, which is open to 15,000 enquiring minds, has since its inception placed authenticity, creativity, relaxation and discovery at its centre. Revelry and recovery come together amongst the historical walled gardens, expansive meadows, natural amphitheatre and old woodlands which beg to be explored. Its ethos has evolved out of deep loyalty to Irish culture and celebrating the Celtic calendar, offering a sanctuary for an adventurous, like-minded community to come together and mark the Solstice.
With wellbeing at its core from the beginning, Body&Soul offers an extensive indulgence programme finessed over years. Masseuses, therapists, leading yogis and sound healers await in the Sanctuary tent, with the Spa available to soothe the senses in seaweed baths, woodfired hot tubs, Balinese steam treatments and turmeric tonics.
New music pioneers meet established legends and cult favourites on the festival stages, which include the Body&Soul main stage, handcrafted using fallen trees from Ballinlough, the Midnight Circus, the Woodlands Stage, and the Reckless in Love late night stage. Guests can expect a programme of acoustic, soul and electronica to please every aural palate.
The culinary lineup is headlined by the ever-popular Food on Board, the festival’s high-end food offering, with a communal dining experience providing ethical and locally sourced food from some of Ireland’s most innovative gourmet producers paired with champagne.
Hidden art installations, immersive theatre experiences and impromptu spoken word performances also await discovery in the expansive grounds, offering moments of joy and surprise for those who find them. Expect incisive political discussion, insightful workshops and a lively programme of children’s events, all against a backdrop of picturesque greenery.
The 2018 edition of the festival, which is now in its ninth year, has the theme of Alchemy – and attendees are encouraged to interpret what Alchemy means to them, be it through their mindset, energy, costume or ideas. With great projects, relationships and concepts evolving out of conversations had and moments shared over the three days at Ballinlough, this is the audience’s chance to harness this energy and become the change they want to see.
